Another day of upsets in Macau, as no fewer than 12 seeded players were sent packing on Thursday, amongst which 8 against lower ranked players. The most surprising losses were the ones of Jiang Yanjiao (2nd seed) to her young compatriot Chen Xiaojia as well as Thailand’s 4th-seeded mixed doubles pair Anugritayawon and Voravichitchaikul, who lost to Taipei’s Liao/Chen.

Malaysian fans will be happy to see that Hafiz Hashim is still on for the title and has scooped his ticket for the quarter-finals after beating Tommy Sugiarto (9th seed). This will make up for Lee Chong Wei’s last minute pull-out from the competition.
