The Badminton World Federation () announced yesterday that former World Champion Li Lingwei has been elected to the International Olympic Committee.  president Dr. Kang Young Joong called Li, who has been serving on both the Council and on the Chinese Olympic Committee’s Executive Board, “an outstanding ambassador for her country and sport, especially badminton”.

“Today’s is not just an honour for Li Lingwei but it is a credit to badminton,” Dr. Kang continued.  “She is respected internationally and we know that, in her unique, way she will distinguish herself in this new role. We extend our warmest congratulations to this icon of our sport.”
