Men’s singles shuttler Ville Lang decided to terminate his 2012 campaign when he called it quits in the middle of the second game after dropping his first game against Sweden’s Gabriel Ulldahl.  Meanwhile in the women’s singles, Netherland’s Yao Jie did not even need to sweat as her opponent, England’s Nicola Cerfontyne, decided to give a walkover to the defending champion.

Prior to the match, Gabriel Ulldahl, currently ranked 154th in the world, had a 0-2 head-to-head record against his much higher-ranked Finnish opponent Ville Lang (photo), who is listed at world#41. The Swede recorded his first-ever game victory when snatched the opening set away from the 2nd seed Finn, 21-17.  Ville, who did not look in perfect form, saw himself trailing behind in the second game.  He retired when the score was registered 6-1 in Ulldahl’s favour.

Denmark’s Rasmus Fladberg was the other main casualty of the day as the 12th seed wentdown to Germany’s Yoga Pratama in three games 21-13, 12-21, 15-21.

In the mixed doubles event, Denmark’s Kamilla Rytter Juhl this time with a new partner Mads Pieler Holding (photo) easily dispatched their opponents from France, Mittelheisser/Lefel, in 2 quick games, 21-8 21-15 in just 20 minutes of play.

Another mixed doubles match saw former Olympic gold medallist Markis Kido partnered with Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth (photo) against Danish pair Elbjorn/Kjaersfeldt.

The Indonesian brother and sister tandem struggled at the start of the 1st game but managed to pull off a close victory, 22-20 before settling down the nerves comfortably taking the 2nd game 21-12. It is looking good for the siblings who won their respective men’s and women’s doubles matches as well.
