One of the oldest tournaments, the Yonex Championships, could be leaving Birmingham, which has been its host since 1984. Badminton England opened an opportunity for other cities to bid for the prestigious event from 2015 onwards. “This process is about looking across our events portfolio and providing fans in this country and worldwide the best possible experience of badminton. We also want to increase awareness of the exciting international events that take place in England and reach new fans to grow our sport,” said Adrian Christy, Chief Executive of Badminton England.

London and its Olympic Park’s Copper Box will be staging a new event in October 2013 which will be part of the renewed Grand Prix Gold circuit.
