Wang Yihan (pictured left) was the latest Chinese seed to fall after Li Xuerui and Du Pengyu earlier on in the day. In a match that lasted 40 minutes, Lindaweni Fanetri (pictured below) beat her Chinese opponent ranked 15 places above her in the singles discipline in straight games.

Fanetri ran away with the first game with a commanding 21-12 score, as she capitalised on a serious of errors by Wang.

Wang improved in the second game and showed fight to recover from being 8-4 down to make the contest more even, but the Indonesian again took the game away from her, taking the final end 21-19.

After the match, Wang said: “I did not give my best in that match, I did not play to the best of my abilities and it is a game I should have won. I need to go away and think about my performance and why I did not progress in this tournament. I lost because I made a lot of mistakes.

“I played better in the second game, but I couldn’t adjust my performance quick enough to take the game.”
