As a country with comparatively little history in top level badminton, Philippines grabbed some valuable experience in the 2013 Axiata Cup. Facing Team Asia, Philippines played better than yesterday as the shuttlers went to rubber games. Malvinne Alcala (photo) took Yip Pui Yin (pictured below), the silver medallist at the 2006 Asian Games, to three games before the Hong Kong shuttler prevailed 21-12, 16-21, 21-16. Teen Alcala is the future of top-level Philippine badminton as she made good move by grabbing Swiss Junior International 2012 and being runner-up at the German Junior 2012.

In men’s singles, the retired Lee Hyun Il continued his impressive performance in this tournament by overcoming John Kenneth Monterubio 21-15, 21-11. India-China pair Zheng Bo / Ashwini Ponappa made should work hard before prevailing Peter Gabriel Magnaye / Bianca Ysabel Carlos 16-21, 21-16, 21-13.

Indonesia extended their own unbeaten sweep. The powerhouse ruled Singapore 4-0 as the they had the Philippines the previous day. Lindaweni Fanetri, in the opening match, played in one hour 10 minutes, taking Xing Aiying in three games to win. This path was continued by Tommy Sugiarto, who won against Ashton Chen 21-19, 21-14. Singapore’s new pair of Yao Lei / Liu Yi made an impressive move yet lacked luck in their match against Muhammad Rijal / Debby Susanto. The Singaporeans stole one game using frequent unforced errors made by Muhammad Rijal. In the last match, Angga Pratama/Ryan Agung Saputro prevailed Danny Bawa Chrisnanta / Terry Yeo 21-11 and 23-21.

RESULTS:
Indonesia beat Singapore 4-0
Asian All-stars beat Philippines 4-0.
