It was announced yesterday that 1 million rackets were given to Indonesian youngsters by PBSI in a joint campaign with Coca-Cola Indonesia, to revive the interest of the sport amongst the local youth. In an exhibition match involving PBSI Chairman Gita Wirjawan, Coca-Cola’s Indonesia Chairman and Olympic champions Rexy Mainaky and Ricky Subagja, the soft drink brand promised to build a badminton court for every three points that the duo scored against the former champions, who eventually won 21-17.

“We all know that badminton is a popular sport in Indonesia, but it used to be more popular than it currently is,” Gita said to the Jakarta Post. The Indonesia President is known to be the one who has revived PBSI with good results coming in after a major title drought following the 2008 men’s doubles gold medal in the Olympics.
