The disciplinary committee of the (BAI) has recommended a life-time ban on doubles specialist Jwala Gutta for her alleged role in a delay during the recently concluded Indian Badminton League.  Gutta was blamed for a 30-minute delay to the start of a match between the Krrish Delhi Smashers and the Banga Beats and was asked last month by the BAI to show cause, says a report today in the Times of India.

The Smashers were apparently upset that a last-minute substitution of Denmark’s Jan Jorgensen had been allowed for the Beats’ injured Hu Yun and the tournament referee’s report blamed Delhi star player Gutta for the team’s refusal to commence the tie until the Beats had agreed to field Arvind Bhat instead of Jorgensen.

The BAI disciplinary committee’s recommendation has been submitted to BAI President Akhilesh Das Gupta, who will make a final decision.
