Jakarta will be the BWF for the 3rd time.  The Badminton World Federation (BWF) made the announcement following a decision by the BWF Council in Athens, Greece.  The Indonesian capital was bidding against China for the right to hold the event in 2015.  According to one member of the Indonesian delegation making the bid in Athens, Jakarta came out as a close winner, with 11 in favour, versus 10 in favour of the Chinese city of Kunshan.

A BWF press release quoted Badminton Association of Indonesia International Relations Manager Bambang Roedyanto as saying,  “We are grateful and we are going to make it one of the best World Championships. It is going to be even better than the Indonesia Open and everybody knows how exciting that is.”

Jakarta hosted the Worlds twice in the 1980s, while competing bidder China hosted its second this year after first hosting the tournament in 1987.   China still got the nod to host the 2015 Sudirman Cup in the southern city of Dongguan, while the World Senior Championships went to Helsingborg, Sweden.  Both of those bids were upopposed.
