German badminton singles ace Juliane Schenk told the Rheinische Post this week that she has already retired.  The German daily apparently asked for confirmation after she missed her first round match at the All England this week.  Schenk had retired from her first round match at the Malaysia Open in January.  The Malaysia event, like the All England, was compulsory for players ranked in the top ten in the world.

Schenk had announced on her website earlier this year that she was intent on getting out of the top ten so that she could avoid paying fines for missing Superseries Premier events.  She told the Rheinische Post that she would be working as a personal trainer, that she was studying at the University of Cologne, and that she was writing a book.

Schenk, who was ranked a career-high of 2nd in the world just before missing last summer’s World Championships, won a Superseries title in Singapore in 2012.

We at Badzine wish Juliane all the best in her future career.
