Malaysian daily The Star reported today that that former world #1 men’s doubles star Koo Kien Keat had joined the Thai badminton club Granular and that he and Ng Hui Lin would be playing in next month’s New Zealand Open. Granular is also the club of Thai veterans Songphon Anugritayawon and Bodin Issara. Issara currently has 16 months remaining on his suspension for brawling at last summer’s Canada Open but he could be a future men’s doubles partner for Koo.

Koo’s former partner Tan Boon Heong will feature slightly sooner as he is to play at the upcoming Malaysia Grand Prix Gold with Ow Yao Han, in a pairing that came into being after Koo submitted his resignation to the Badminton Association of Malaysia last month.

Koo’s new mixed partner Ng Hui Lin has not competed in New Zealand since she won the mixed title at the World Junior Championships there in 2007.
