Lin Dan has withdrawn from the season-ending in Dubai.  His absence opens a spot for his compatriot Tian Houwei to participate.  The Hong Kong Open runner-up finished 7th in the overall standings but as the 3rd-ranked Chinese player, was not originally invited.

The same pattern had already been followed when Naoko Fukuman / Kurumi Yonao got the nod for Dubai only after their compatriots Reika Kakiiwa / Miyuki Maeda withdrew.  Like China in men’s singles, Japan will still have two entries in the women’s doubles.
