Badminton Canada announced on their Facebook page this evening that their bid to host the 2018 World Championships had been successful.  Full details are not available at this time but Badminton Canada and Badminton Ontario were to make a detailed bid to the Badminton World Federation () at the Annual General Meeting in Australia.

The proposed venue was the Pan Am Centre in Markham, Ontario.  It was the venue for the 2015 , as well as the 2014 Pan Am Badminton Championships and it will host this year’s Pan Am Juniors as well.  Canada has not hosted the World Junior event since 2004 but the event has taken place in the Americas twice since, in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2010 and in Lima, Peru in 2015.
