Indonesia’s elder badminton statesman Suharso Suhandinata, aged 94, passed away on Thursday, November 11th, 2010, according to Indonesia’s Antara News Agency.

Founder of the Tangkas Club, Suhandinata was known for unifying the International Badminton Federation (IBF) and the World Badminton Federation (WBF) and he also had a role in making badminton an Olympic sport.  In recognition of the contributions of Suhandinata and his two sons, Justian and Juniarto, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) renamed the World Junior Championship mixed team trophy the Suhandinata Cup in 2008.

Suharso Suhandinata had been suffering from Parkinson’s Disease since 1998.
