Less than a year after underwent chemotherapy to treat a cancer, the tall Czech player returned to the badminton courts and to a podium this weekend as he clinched his first international title since, with a clean march through the men’s singles category of the Victor Slovak Open 2011, which is an . Koukal, 4th seed for the event, beat all his opponents in straight games to clinch the title.

The Dutch clinched all three doubles events, while Finish star Anu Nieminen was crowned in the women’s singles event.
