Indian star Saina Nehwal will not be playing in the competition, according to an article that ran today in the Times of India.  The Indian daily said that a toe injury, which she sustained by accidentally colliding with a door and aggravated by playing in the India Open, was reponsible for sidelining Saina from badminton’s world mixed team championships.

The Sudirman Cup kicks off in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday and 17-year-old PV Sindhu, who found success there just two weeks ago in the Malaysia Grand Prix Gold, will be the only women’s singles shuttler on India’s lean, 11-member squad.
