English shuttler Panuga Riou secured her first major win on the international stage this year when she won the 2014 Polish International this week-end.  It was the second of her career after the Victor Slovak International in 2013.  Riou beat Turkish Ozge Bayrak in three games 11-9, 11-4, 11-7 to secure the title.

Later on, she published a photo of herself on the podium with the following caption: “This ones for youuu egg!! I miss you bigg time!!

“Egg” was the nickname of Karin Velez, a USA international player originally from the Philippines and one of Panuga’s closest friends.  Sadly, Velez died in a car last year.

Other winners of the day in Lubin were Michal Rogalski (POL) in men’s singles, Cwalina/Pietryja (POL) in men’s doubles, Feri/Tunali (TUR) in women’s doubles and Mateusiak/Wojtkowska (POL) in mixed.
